Turkeys eating feedHappy Wednesday, turkey lovers! I took this photo a few years ago in a turkey barn just south of the Twin Cities. I am sharing it today because it’s a chance for me to show you what turkeys eat every day: a perfectly nutritious mix of corn and soybean meal, with some vitamins and minerals mixed in.

In other words … No hormones. No steroids. Nothing bad at all.

Let’s repeat that, just for fun: No hormones. No steroids. Nothing bad at all.

Doesn’t that make you feel better? The next time you see “hormone and steroid free” on a package of turkey (or chicken, for that matter) in the grocery store, you already know that all poultry in the U.S. is raised without added hormones and steroids. And you can amaze your friends with the truth that there are no such products approved for use in poultry in the U.S. It doesn’t matter if you raise your birds traditionally, organically, or backyardically. Oh wait, that’s not a word, is it? Well, you know what I’m saying … 🙂

Thanks, Lara…I did not know that. I thought for sure that some birds are raised “fast and furiously” with the use of additives! Good to know.

It’s a very common misconception, Corinne, so you aren’t alone – glad I could help provide some good info for you!
